Microsoft Tests New Xbox Game Pass Standard Tier for $1

Microsoft is introducing a new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier, currently available for testing by Xbox Insiders for just $1. This new tier is designed to replace the existing Game Pass for Console option for new users. The Game Pass Standard includes access to the full Game Pass library for Xbox, along with online multiplayer for consoles. However, it does not offer immediate access to day-one game releases.

During the testing phase, Xbox Insiders can subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Standard for only $1 per month, with renewals also priced at $1 for the duration of the preview period, according to Megan Spurr, senior community lead for Xbox Game Pass. Once officially launched, the Standard tier will cost $14.99 per month.

Microsoft has clarified that while some day-one games and other titles available in Game Pass Ultimate may not be immediately accessible through Game Pass Standard, they could be added to the library later, potentially up to 12 months or more after release, depending on the game.

The new Xbox Game Pass Standard tier was first announced in July, along with price increases for the Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Microsoft plans to roll out the Standard tier more broadly in the coming months. The current Xbox Game Pass for Console subscription will remain available for existing subscribers, but new users won’t be able to choose the console option until the new Standard tier becomes widely available.

If you want to try out the Xbox Game Pass Standard for $1, you can opt-in through the Xbox Insider Hub on your Xbox console. However, current Game Pass Core members with more than two months on their membership, or Game Pass Ultimate members, won’t be able to participate in this testing phase.
